. ARIEL MIRANDA:  UNCLEAR Only saw about 20 of his pitches.  Between that and Brooks we could grok that: 1  His "splitter" wasn't cutting or diving much, which, no huge tragedy.  But since the change tunnels exactly with the heater, more cut is nice. 2  He wasn't owning the inside third or failing at it.  "Unclear" goes the chessplayer's evaluation - not so much a copout :- ) as a statement that "you shouldn't opine with so little data."  Or that's the idea-r. 3  His rhythm and attack were muy excelente.  Despite the conditions, despite watching Anderson get royally skewered, Miranda looked... . There isn't any amount of theorizing that's going to pique our interest in a 2017 pennant race, like there isn't any amount of grousing that is going to stand up to an 8-game winning streak.  A picture's worth 1,000 words, eh.  Monday afternoon's game was just such a picture. Our fillin #11 starter, whats-iz-Ganglion, scrounged 5 innings and held the Rockies to 5 runs.  The Skip was positively giddy about the "ultra quality start" Coors adjusted.  We ain't kidding.  He was gushing all over the performance in the postgame.  One of yer all-time great 9.00 ERA's, but ya, we know what he meant... Due to the broken body parts of Felix, Iwakuma, Paxton and some other guy that now litter Safeco Field, the M's have had to dig deep into the pasta barrel to find "major league" (used carefully with some of these guys) arms to fill the void.  While a Fister or two was fairly available, we've rolled our own, to varying degrees of success.  Here's a sort of report, from the peanut gallery, assuredly, of the guys we've trotted out onto the mound.  Of course, I'm not including Gallardo (Thank goodness we've had his innings, but beyond that he's mostly been "Bleh!") or Miranda (currently our ace,... Cemeteries were not as well thought out, say, five hundred years ago.  If one got crowded, the local magistrates would simply evict the tenants and toss their bones into a facility they politely termed a "Charnel House."  Which brings us to the Oakland A's offense.  Christian Bergman (!!) posted a box score of 7.1 2 0 0 0 2 9 which will serve as (1) the best memory of his baseball career and (2) the best memory of any Mariner pitcher's 2017 so far.  It was quite literally the best end result by a Mariner to date, Paxtons included.
