+8 defensive runs for Dyson sounds nice, but how many more offensive runs does a 100 or 115 wRC+ create than a 73?

Pains me to see that Motter was effectively iced. Left on the bench to rot and got out of his groove for the sake of getting Dyson into the lineup.

3

Because he pretty much does. When the guy(s) who would be replacing him aren't defensive slouches themselves (Heredia or Gamel), in my book, Dyson is nothing but a pinch runner when Haniger returns..

Heredia' s wRC+ against righties is even 16 points higher than Dyson, so, so much for platooning.

1.  Number of SSI'ers who pointed out that nobody, almost ever, had their three best batting seasons at ages 34, 35 & 36.

1.  Number of SSI'ers who indicated, ergo, that we should expect some Cruz decline from the heydays of '15/'16.

Gazillion:  Number of times I've recently wished I hadn't made that prediction.

Sigh

I call roids...so...it's not your fault...steroid users tend to break the normal career progressions.

7

I'm skeptical. Cruz is enough of a statistical dodo bird to make me seriously question what methods he's using to stay this sharp.  Maybe the injuries early in his career have made him a total gym freak and super-hungry to stay in the game as long as possible, so I can't know for certain. It's just that he got busted for steroids at exactly the moment he morphed from inconsistent but highly talented slugger to tops in the game slugger.

8

Someone here pointed out the effect of PEDs last long after use.  I believe it was Doc.  I don't think a limit to how long a person could continue to be affected by them was established by anything I read on the subject.

9

Suggesting 3-4 years at least, ex post facto, can see benefit…

roids or not  it was just last night they talked about his lifting heavy seven (7) days a week DURING the year…  Shocking ...

10

if you'd predicted fewer than 200 more wins for Moyer after the Cubs cut him at 30, we'd have let that slide too ...

who's the greater outlier at this point?  Almost wonder if Cruz seems more unlikely than Moyer -

11

It was a long at bat and sometimes that happens, Khris Davis hits the ball hard.  I was more worried about the Vogt homer, until I saw the Adrian Beltre-style swing he put on a dirt bound curve ball.  I feel like his command has been improving by drips and drops over the season, and this start saw him nailing the edges of the strike zone with consistency early in the game.  Later, after 70+ pitches, the commands got fuzzy again, but he still would have made it through 7 innings if it weren't for his once per game unwatchable 27 hopper....Gallardo that is, I guess I'm taking HWSNBN TOO seriously

hey all:

Off Speed, my M's centric history of pitching, went on sale this morning. You can buy it wherever fine books are sold. Will be doing readings this weekend in Seattle. Love to meet SSI lurkers.

Maybe with a quick bio my man?  quick link to a purchase area?  Would sure appreciate it!  Other Denizens have done so several times previously.

you offered a copy thanks very much but I'll buy a download if it's available on iBooks -

can you answer this?   I don't guest post…

For me it is the very top left area that has a drop-down for Add Post ...  don't forget to be within the baseball subdomain when you begin that process…

Or if you send me the text material Terry, I will convert it to an article –
