Single in California

Posh restaurants to impress your date

Dating in California runs the gamut, from high-powered attorneys in BMWs to laid-back hippies surfing at the beach. No matter what you're into, you can probably find it in California - although you might have to drive a while to get there.

California also has some of the best destination restaurants in the country, second only to New York City. Want to really impress your date? Try one of these ultra-luxe eateries and get your fancy food bag on!

French Laundry (Yountville)
Boasting the coveted Michelin three-star rating, and called "The best in the world, period" by Anthony Bourdain, French Laundry features French food with an American influence, and their ever-changing menu features fresh, local ingredients. Average meal cost: $295 per person.

Ink (Los Angeles)
The project of chef Michael Voltaggio, winner of Top Chef season six, Ink is a hot little restaurant that is getting a lot of press. Featuring a fascinating take on American cuisine, with dishes like corn with homemade Doritos, lollipop kale and fried pig ears, and pork shoulder. Ink is also surprisingly affordable for such a highly rated restaurant, with an average meal cost of around $65 per person.

Baume (Palo Alto)
Molecular gastronomy is the hotness in haute cuisine these days, and Baume offers a wide range of dishes that feature elements from the form. Your best bet is probably the tasting menu, which will deliver up a huge assortment of weird, wild, and innovative dishes to the tune of about $200.
