Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for August 25
AAA -- Tacoma 6, Tucson 4 -- Box
While we await word of his September fate, it was time for Walker, Seattle Mariner!
And Taijuan Walker (Talk40 #2) laid down the law down in Tucson:
6.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K
But the score got much closer when Tom Wilhelmsen came in and gave up three runs, including a two-run homer.
Stefen Romero (Talk40 #11) went 3-for-5 with his eighth home run. He's hitting .285/.335/.436.
And Abraham Almonte (26intheMix) continued Abe's Awesome August in AAA with his sixth triple of the season.
AA -- Jackson 4, Chattanooga 3 -- Box
A freaky finish had Chris Taylor (Talk40 #28) scoring the winning run to close out another strong outing.
With one out in the 9th, the bases were loaded after singles from Gabriel Noriega and Taylor, then a Jabari Blash (Watch List) walk.
Noriega tried to score on a wild pitch, but was called out at the plate. Two out.
But Taylor tried to take third on the play, which resulted in a throwing error, which, in turn, allowed Taylor to come home and end the game.
Taylor finished with three hits and a stolen base.
And I owe a nod to Kyle Hunter (26intheMix), who's having a very good year pitching as a lefty reliever. He went 2.1 IP with no runs.
41 G | 1.82 ERA | 1.13 WHIP | 2.6 BB/9 | 7.1 K/9
High-A -- High Desert 9, Inland Empire 3 -- Box
A 17-mph wind blowing out helped the Mavericks deliver three homers, but Jordan Shipers (26intheMix) navigated it pretty well:
5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
The homers belonged to:
- Dillon Hazlett (his seventh)
- Patrick Kivlehan (Talk40 #33) (his 16th)
- Kevin Rivers (his 17th)
Since Kivlehan started his hot streak on July 25:
27 G | 47 H | 10 doubles, 8 HR | 10 BB | 22 K | .420/.468/.723
Low-A -- Beloit 6, Clinton 4 -- Box
Dario Pizzano (26intheMix) contributed mightily, but it was not enough. Pizzano had two doubles (his 37th and 38th) and a walk (his 60th).
Rookie -- Pulaski 15, Kingsport 0 -- Box
Eddie Cruises! And boy did he!
6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 12 K
The Strikeout King of Southwestern Virginia lives! ... Big time.
And the offense cruised, too, even with only one homer (a two-run shot from Jeffrey Zimmerman).
Toby DeMello had two doubles, a single and a walk, while Isaiah Yates (Talk40 #39) stayed hot with a double, a triple and two walks.
AZL Rookie -- Dodgers 4, Mariners 2 -- Box
An all-name game.
The Mariners sent Jeffeson Medina, Michaelangelo Guzman and Neritzon Osorio to the mound. Not the ninja turtles.
The Dodgers countered with Lenix Osuna, Bladimir Franco and ... wait for it ... Greg Harris.
Back in the day there was Greg A. Harris, Greg W. Harris and also Gene Harris. This Greg Harris is the son of Greg A. Harris.
Anyway, Greg, Lenix and Bladimir got the better of Jeffeson, Michaelangelo and Neritzon.
Looking Ahead
Happy Edwin Day! Edwin Diaz (Talk40 #36) for Pulaski.
