Minor League roundup, 5/16

It's about time to take a look at the farm, strange a place as it is right now. I had some time, so here's the Mariners top-10 from MLB.com and how they've done over the first 5 weeks of the season:

<p>4 shutout innings by the pen today! Hooray! In '07 Figgins ran a BABIP of over .390. It was .376 vR in '09. .326 overall, for his career. .332 vR. He had two years where everything fell in, to go along with his great eye in .09. In '10 his BABIP was down to .314 and in '11 it was .215! '12 was .237. #Seattle paid for his unsustainable BABIP and his unsustainable BB's in '09.</p>

<p>The established NHL teams are not pulling in much revenue when you compare them to the NFL, MLB and NBA and many of the teams claim they are just coming out ahead when the fiscal year is done. #Seattle more than likely cannot support a NHL team for several years hoping that the revenue increases each year to pay off the initial debt of bringing a team to #Seattle.</p>

<p>If the NHL is asking $500 million for an expansion team I can see why #Seattle was dragging their feet. An appropriate venue (arena) was going to have to be built and we know those are not cheap and then the actual purchase price of the expansion team. Sources that I had read said that for the new arena funding was going to be tight. Makes me wonder if funding fell through or they finally realized that the cost to get a team there would not be recouped for many years to come.</p>
