They're Creepy and They're Kooky: Upcoming Events at the Morbid Anatomy Museum

When it comes to unique and unusual experiences in New York City, it's hard to contend with what's waiting at the Morbid Anatomy Museum. In the past, they've given us macabre theatrical performances such as Buried Alive!, lectures on the history of human hair, and workshops on the lost art of insect shadowboxing. If you're searching for an unforgettable way to spend an evening with a special – and delightfully strange - someone, head over to Brooklyn for one of these forthcoming MAM events.

Shrouds Then and Now: An Affectionate History of Winding Sheets and Burial Garments
This illustrated lecture from funeral director Amy Cunningham examines the death shrouds traditional to an array of cultures. Study modern designs as well as ancient ones and learn interesting facts about things we wear to honor those who've passed away. Admission: $8.

A History of Serial Murder from One Million B.C. To the Present
Presented by Harold Schechter (author of my personal favorite book on the subject of psychopaths, The A to Z Encyclopedia of Serial Killers) explores the evolution of serial murder as we've come to know it today, with a particular emphasis on iconic killings that have had lasting effects on our culture. Copies of Schechter's book will also be available for sale. Admission: $8.

Anthropomorphic Rabbit Taxidermy Class
While some might recoil at the thought of stuffing once living animals and posing them into human attitudes for display, it is an art form, and one which Morbid Anatomy loves sharing with those who are willing and eager to learn. The workshop provides all materials needed for both beginning and intermediate taxidermists. Participants even get to take their creations home. Admission: $300.
