The Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas

The City of Sin adds gluttony to the list with 10,000 calorie hamburgers.

The city of Las Vegas is known throughout the world as a place of decadence, and with the high concentration of gambling, strippers and houses of ill repute, it’s no wonder.  But money and naked ladies aren't the only means that Las Vegas visitors have to indulge their hedonism.  One particular restaurant, known as the Heart Attack Grill, takes the experience of eating unhealthy food and turns it into an art form.

This little restaurant started up in Arizona in 2005, but has since made a permanent relocation to the City of Sin.  The whole thing is hospital-themed, complete with the showmanship that is so characteristic of Las Vegas.  People working at the restaurant dress up as doctors and examine the customers/patients before they eat.  And the nurses, again in Las Vegas tradition, are dressed up to look as sexy as possible.

When you visit the Heart Attack Grill, you’d best to remember that they pride themselves on turning out some seriously greasy and high-calorie items.  They are so dedicated to it, in fact, that they are the title-holders of the Guinness World Record for the burger with the most calories in the world.

The menu contains a list of items with titles like Double Bypass Burger.  They serve burgers with one to four patties, the largest containing two full pounds of meat.  They also serve lard-dipped fries, bacon (five slices per patty) and shakes made from butter fat cream.  If you feel like drinking and smoking while you consume your massive pile of meat, they sell liquor and cigarettes as well.

Of course, all this dedication comes with a price.  People have been complaining about the Heart Attack Grill pretty much since the day they opened.  It’s no wonder, seeing as how the restaurant also has the controversial practice of letting those who weigh-in at over 350 lbs. eat for free.  Not to mention the strange connection of heart attack deaths to their establishment.

Then again, if you march in and order a 10,000 calorie Quadruple Bypass Burger, you’re not exactly thinking about your heart health.  If you’re a burger fan and happen to be in Las Vegas, this may be the place for you.  If you’re seriously overweight and have heart issues, you might want to consider a salad instead.  You can check out more details on the place at their official home page.
