Girl Scout cookies app: The search for Samoas just got easier

Tasty cookies are just a touch away.

It’s that time of year again. Girl Scouts are selling their famous cookies (or infamous cookies if you’re still sticking to your New Year’s resolutions). If it isn't easy enough to give in to your sweet tooth when those persuasive scouts come knocking, now you can seek them out. That’s right. The new Girl Scout Cookie Finder makes those Thin Mints, now just a touch away, even more difficult to resist.

The app, available in the App Store and on Google Play for the Android market, has become a popular download. The app is free, giving you even more money to spend on those delicious morsels.

When you open the app for the first time, a short video plays, talking about the Girl Scout cookie program. The next screen features “How to Buy Cookies,” “Meet the Cookies” and “Find Cookies Now” sections. Upon tapping “Meet the Cookies,” you’ll find a picture and description of each of their cookies along with the option to share it as your favorite via social media.

The app uses GPS to determine your location to show you where you can buy cookies nearby. The listings can be viewed according to the date the sales are running or by distance. Tempt your friends into buying a few boxes by posting the location of cookie sales to Facebook or Twitter. You can also vote for your favorite cookie and share your vote with your friends. If one day isn't enough to satisfy your cookie cravings, you can save sale dates to your calendar to stock up whenever you’re nearby.

If you’re interested in more than just eating cookies, you can also read about The 5 Skills learned from cookie sales, too. The 5 Skills include goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Enjoying cookies while helping young girls learn about business? Win-win.
