As far as we know, two teams circle the one chair, the music stops ... and the Cubs wave their hand and walk off. Naaaaaahhhhhh. ... can anybody even tell me who the second team is? Seriously. Number Two is now Boras' Rabbit Out of a Hat.
Grumpy sez,
Isn't it kind of worrisome that 29 other teams are NOT interested in Fielder? Are we missing something here?
My reaction too, Dr. G. Cool Papa Bell, and a few others, had predicted a soft market from the very beginning. Today he sez,
He's a bad long term fit for every NL club but that's just because of the rules. In the AL, the biggest spenders already have first base locked up and Toronto and Texas need pitching more than offense (and Texas doesn't seem to have the cash right now that every seems to think they do).
There just aren't a lot of teams that have the money to spend and are a good fit. The current situation was entirely predictable before the season so it shouldn't be scary that it has developed.
Would agree that the current situation was -- loosely -- predictable. But we would all agree that the degree of downside here is alarming for Boras.
...........
Most underrated Mariner of 2011? That one guy who played shortstop. I literally forget his name at the moment. Sandy can look it up for me, right after he links us to the latest Jose Reyes buzz. Only three years, San-man!
Most underrated AL player? Ben Zobrist, maybe. Except by my roto teams. ... did you know Alex Avila had 5.8 WAR?
Most underrated AL pitcher? Well, it was Doug Fister, right, but then he got a lot of pub and became an overrated-underrated pitcher ... don't say Brandon League. You don't want to experience Dr. D going off on you, especially when you're right.
I ended up with some "leftover" SimPoints after buying Hidden Springs, so they caught me at a weak moment. When I fired up my Sims 3 Launcher, one of the featured items was a fancy new toilet. Who could resist? While I was there, I bought the new wind chimes, too.
The Generations expansion pack introduced a lot of new Lifetime Rewards. One of the most substantial new rewards is the Motive Mobile, which costs 45,000 Lifetime Happiness Points. Frankly, given what a powerful object it is, I think it probably should have cost more!
Terry McDermott continues to clang the cowbell for Carp at 3B :- )
In the great Yonder Alonso / Joe Torre tradition! Plus, you need to make some space for the rooks in left, whichever ones don't get traded. If it's me, I'd spend some time thinking about a Wells-Ackley-Ichiro outfield with Trayvon as the fourth (switch-hitting pinch-hitter, pinch-runner). If you want to maximize Ackley's bat, CF is at least as good an option as 2B with the added thrill that we get to watch him run more often.
I'm playing a super-hard challenge these days, which requires (among other things) that your Sim max out their career AND a skill. I have traditionally had a lot of trouble getting either of these things accomplished, much less in the same Sim. It has really brought home to me the value of matching up skills with traits and career.
Q. Can a baseball offense be too patient?
A. It can, yes. If a hitter goes up to the plate, the bat glued to his shoulder, hoping for a walk, he's quickly going to be out of the majors.
Vargas and Gimenez threw few changeups and sliders on Monday.

... sez, of Anthony Rendon,
"Hank Aaron wrists" says his college coach (who is 75 years old and played for the Phillies under Gene Mauch in 1963, so he knows what he's talking about). Rendon 6-0, 190; Aaron 6-0, 180.
The foundation of Rendon's offensive game is an innate ability to wait for his pitch.
