More Hitters - vs - More Relievers

Speaking of Jesus Montero ...

Dr. Detecto hopes you find it amusing that on Monday he might analyze Mike Montgomery to the point of his readers' nausea ... and then on Tuesday he will say something like "Who's this Johnny Cueto guy?"  It's all part of the SSI fun.  Some things interest us and other things, we pay zero attention to.  Off the top of his head, Dr. D couldn't name three guys in the Ranger lineup.  But he does demand the right to veto the M's roster moves.

Q.  M's go down 3-0 ... and then the BOTTOM of the order erupts.  5 runs in the 3rd inning, and before there was a single out.  Just one of those things, no?

A.  Just one of those things, No.  The lousy half of the lineup played really well for five at-bats in a row.  It wasn't just Dr. D's interpretation, though of course that is unimpeachable.  Blowers (one of the most accurate color analysts we've heard) remarked on the quality "approaches" as they occurred and refrained on it after the fact.

Thusly:

Warm Fuzzies

Dr. D knows not whether any of these child-sized Warm Fuzzies will grow up to be the large and shaggy kind.  But for one night we got a heaping bag full of them, Bad Witch protests begone.  The M's blew out the Orcs, Lloyd says he sees signs of sunny hitting weather, and ... Felix goes tomorrow.  There's a double dip that Dr. D can live with.

No stats.  Just feelings.  Stats next time.

J.A. HAPP

A quality start, nominally.  6 IP, 3 ER.  Remember when beat writers used to guffaw about a "4.50 ERA" being quality?  I haven't heard that one in a while, have you?  It's like a 13-game hitting streak.  Some o' those games had .250 batting averages in 'em, but string together a quantity of such games and you're gonna be hokay.

A Shandler Quality Start 4/5, in the sense that he had good Stamina, good Domination (K within 1 of his IP), good Command (walks half of his K), and good Mistake Avoidance (no more than 1 HR, and it Happ-ens that homer was kinda bad luck).

At this point we have pretty well triangulated Happ:  he's got a zinging little fastball that he commands very well, a lousy offspeed game, and strong mound presence.  Which has compiled to ... what, exactly?

Still Life

.

"Still Life" art has been around since, oh, about the time the alligators were chasing the Egyptians back into the pyramids.  In fact if you want interesting Still Life, that's about how far back you have to go.

Personally I never cared for "Still Life" art much, as it is based on the artist's own arrangement of life components as he wishes them to be.  I especially don't care for it as it pertains to postgame blogs, wherein the article pretty much consists of a simple description of what we all just watched.
