Musical Theater Watch - January Week Four

One of the things that the world knows NYC for is its amazing shows. If you’re one of those that loves a good musical, you’re pretty much guaranteed that something is going on every night of the week. Here are just a few of the shows that are showing right now.

Beast Mode gets a Bye (Bye?)

.

Dr. D did an awesome piece last week, in which he found that Marshawn Lynch is one of the best Seahawks.

The most likely reason for this is that other players can't tackle Lynch, despite an Arizona fan who blogged (yes, he did) that "any decent high school player" could have brought down Lynch on the sideline of Quake v2.0.  Any decent high school player who ever lived, as we know, would have been airlifted by chopper to see if they could get him to the hospital in time.

The Think Tank bubbled, percolated, and agreed unanimously that Lynch is indeed good, and that the Seahawks would find a way to surf this beastly wave until it hit the beach.  SSI Resolution 1306 allowed us to return to not talking about the Mariners very much.

Dr's R/X on Melky Cabrera

.

Uses, side effects, and interactions:  MELKY OTC is used to treat 513-run depression and anxiety. In addition, it is used as an anti-emetic.  MELKY may improve your mood, energy, and appetite for $6 boiled weiners.  MELKY should not be taken with handfuls of promising young club-controlled players, as dangerous Rule 5 player diarrhea may lead to acute dehydration.  This medication works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances to the scoreboard.

Jack Zduriencik reminds me of Whitey Herzog, give or take the belly laugh and the rings.  (Whitey Herzog minus those two things is still a whale of a baseball man.  A great Bill James line about Herzog  -- who ran James' beloved 1970's Royals --   "If Whitey hadn't been an MLB manager, he'd have been the county sheriff.")

The passage I remember best from his book The White Rat:  "If it's drizzling, Templeton doesn't wanna play.  If it's Thursday, he doesn't wanna play.  If his wife yelled at him, he doesn't wanna play.  I gotta have a starting shortstop I can count on."  Or somesuch.

Whereupon Whitey "templeton'ed" his starting shortstop to San Diego, taking back a slick-fielding kid who could flip sky-high handsprings on his way out to his position.  Or, occasionally, while turning a double play.  Whitey got a shortstop who loved to play the game, and the St. Louis Cardinals of the 1980's became the Kansas City Royals of the 1970's.  St. Louis' quasi-dynasty hasn't let up much since.
