Hot new trailer: 'Dallas Buyers Club'
At long last, we've got our first look at Dallas Buyers Club, the upcoming drama movie starring Matthew McConaughey as Ron Woodroof, an HIV-positive Texas cowboy who organizes a drug ring (of sorts) to help others get the meds they so desperately need to stay alive.
Dallas Buyers Club is one of the movies I've been waiting to see for...well, forever. Yes, we've all seen the shocking photos of Matthew McConaughey's stunning weight loss for the role, but I wasn't sure whether this film would be a weepy terminal illness drama or something else.
It's something else: In fact, at least from this first trailer, it seems like Dallas Buyers Club is whole lot of something else. It's part terminal illness drama yes, but it's also a film depicting Ron Woodruff's role as unlikely political activist. He's fighting The Law at every turn, to try and smuggle in the antiretroviral drugs from Mexico that he and his fellow HIV-positive patients need to extend their lives.
Here is the first official trailer for Dallas Buyers Club:

Is it just me, or is anyone else also getting chill bumps watching this?
The buzz about Matthew McConaughey getting a Best Actor Academy Award nomination for his role in Dallas Buyers Club is absolutely spot on. I'd also throw in Jared Leto as a possible Supporting Actor Oscar nominee. At first, I didn't even recognize Leto as the transsexual woman named Rayon, who ultimately partners up with Ron Woodroof to help distribute the anti-viral drugs. Of course, Oscar-caliber performances involve much more than extreme weight loss, but judging from this trailer, Leto and McConaughey deliver the goods.
Whatever the case, Dallas Buyers Club is on my radar and I cannot wait to see this movie when it opens. Lucky for us, Focus Features is opting to move up the release date to November 1, 2013 (it was originally slated to open on December 6).
