Sweden is running out of garbage

Help keep the lights on: Send trash!

Sweden's innovative and forward-thinking waste-to-trash and recycling programs are so efficient that Sweden is actually running ot of trash. (Only 4% of Sweden's trash ends up in the dump, compared to about 50% of America's trash.) If Sweden wants to keep the lights on - and they do - they may have to resort to importing trash from other countries.

Luckily for Sweden, no other country is willing to go to Sweden's efficiency. Not only do they have a surplus of trash, they are willing to actually pay Sweden to take it off their hands. Sweden not only gets money for the trash; they also turn it into energy (which they sell to their citizens). If I was Sweden, I would be feeling pretty darned smug about this!
