NYC Health Dept Shutting Down Hookah Bars - For Your Safety, Of Course

It looks like bad news for those of us that like to frequent hookah bars in the New York area. The health department has been secretly watching some of these establishments and testing their shisha. As it turns out, 13 different locations were shown to have actual tobacco in their product. And, since NYC hates smokers, that means they’re breaking the law.

The city is currently in the process of revoking the bars’ business permits, thus forcing them to shut down. Some may agree that businesses shouldn’t have the right to decide whether or not they allow smoking in their establishments, but the shutdown will cause other problems at the expense of this nanny mentality. People will lose jobs, tax revenue will decrease and people that frequented these places may end up choosing a regular bar instead, thus decreasing health via the increase of alcohol consumption. Not a very smart move, in my opinion.
