Upcoming Date Movies

One thing’s for sure: you can take your date to the theater this summer.

Glancing over this list of upcoming summer blockbusters and spring flicks, I knew one thing—I was going to need a babysitter. Because I see lots of date nights ahead. “Geektastic,” as the author described this list, is definitely the term I would use!

First of all, we have some scary movies coming up—like The Raven and The Cabin in the Woods. Now, is it just me, or do you think Lionsgate produced Cabin as a kind of nod to The Hunger Games? It sure seems like a horror version of the epic series. And as far as Raven goes, well, John Cusack is my version of Nic Cage (whom I actually cannot stand—sorry, y’all), so seeing that goes without saying.

Pirates looks pretty funny, as does Dark Shadows and Men in Black III—say what you will about sequels, but if it features Will Smith I am sooo there. I could watch the original MIB any day and every day and not get sick of it. Shadows also looks pretty sexy—hell, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, and Johnny Depp, how could it NOT be? Those are some of the sexiest people I could ever think of, let alone cast together. That would be a hot date—with or without your own!

As far as fantasy goes, I am thinking that Snow White and the Huntsman will be the best of the year—especially if the trailer is any indication. I love me some Charlize Theoron, one of the best actresses of our time, and she looks positively wicked—like a spin on Erzebet Bathory (the blood countess) as the queen. Heck yeah. But we also have Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter coming up, which might just give it a run for its money—and, any case, back to back movies that I want to see really, really badly. Then there’s the fantasy Paranorman, which is from the makers of Coraline, which makes me want to see it right now. I mean it—release it now, folks, or suffer the consequences!

And finally, we have the superhero films. The sexist movies by far for me are always the superhero ones—particularly if they include Christian Bale or Hugh Jackman, and luckily one of them does! The Dark Knight Rises will finally be released this summer, as will The Avengers and The Amazing Spiderman. I am a bit bummed about Avengers since Norton isn’t returning, but you can’t have everything.
