Gamers, Meet Your Match
If you’re a gamer, a techie, a trekkie, or a general geek looking for love, have you considered that you’ve been doing it in all the wrong places? I don’t mean bars, but even the most conventional dating websites might not be the best places for you to find likeminded love. You might be surprised, but a known place of relationship building is none other than the War of Warcraft game.
I’m not kidding! I know a couple who met there, then met up in one of their states (one from Missouri traveled all the way to Texas), and got married. Today, several years later, they remain happily in love—and still playing WOW together. In fact, my sister and her husband regularly play with them, proving that double dates and romance don’t have to be in public or in a trendy restaurant to be effective!
Another couple I know met up on an avatar-based game site as well. That was years ago; today they are married with a child. Perhaps gaming sites get a bad rap when they are used on television shows like Law and Order, but I know far more positive examples of geeky websites that connected people who wanted to find their true love (or perhaps were not even trying and simply found it as a side effect!) than people who were harmed by such places.
There are plenty of other places for tech heads to find love other than, say, the Apple store, too. There are plenty of conventions where you can find people looking for love, from Star Trek to Supernatural to Star Wars. Even hobbit hobbyists want to settle down in the Shire eventually and get married and make baby hobbits!
I have heard of MySpace and Facebook connections as well, though I don’t know any people personally who meet up from using these places; that said, to each his or her own, and if that’s the place where you spend your time, maybe it’s the one that will work best for you.
I would tell any techy girl or guy to use his or her own favorite game to find love, since that’s where you’re going to meet people who like the same games that you like already. Of course, you can also use that as a gauge of whether or not you’ll be compatible. And if nothing else, there’s always the Apple store.
