The best New Orleans parks
New Orleans has history, tourism, and great food in spades. What many people don’t realize is that it also has a ton of great parks. Here are our top three picks for the best parks in New Orleans.
A former sugar plantation, Audubon Park began as the site of the World’s Fair in 1884. Since then it has been developed into a place filled with winding paths, lagoons, and – as you might expect – a profusion of wildlife, including birds as well as native turtles.
This park along the banks of Lake Pontchartrain is a great place to catch a cool breeze, go for a walk, and have a nice picnic. Dotted with playgrounds and green spaces, the lakefront is a great place to kick back and relax.
At 1,300 acres, this huge park is filled with historical locations and beautiful green spaces. Practically obliterated by Hurricane Katrina, local organizations have worked hard to bring City Park back to glory. Many of the former 600 year-old oaks have died, but the clean-up has created more open spaces and lovely walking trails.
