Housing Authority Deliberately Ignores Run-down Homes

Some people may not know, but the New York Housing Authority is a big real estate owner. Through various legal means, homes have made their way into the possession of this government entity. But that real problem lies in the fact that the NYCHA is letting them rot to the ground and doing nothing to take care of the numerous safety violations they present.

Neighborhoods have these monstrosities sitting in between perfectly good houses. People know that the buildings are abandoned (it’s easy to tell, given their condition) and use them to do drugs in, dump garbage at and more. Neighbors are understandably upset and some have even tried to buy the homes so that they could fix them up and improve their communities, but the NYCHA keeps promising they’ll do something with them and then never delivers.

I wonder - if the NYCHA is letting their homes turn into death traps, shouldn’t they be seized by some other government organization? Personally, I say hand them out to the people that live in the neighborhoods. They’re the ones that have to deal with the crime and other dangers that houses present.
