Rats Love NYC

If you thought the NYC streets were crowded with people, try to imagine living in the city as a rat. According to recent estimates, the rat population is approximately double that of the human population. That’s nearly 17 million rats. Chances are you’ve seen a few of these rodent residents hanging out and going about their business. Now, however, it looks like the city is going to do their best to bring these numbers down.

The worst neighborhoods are being targeted by city officials in their new war against rats. A little over $600k has been devoted to the project, so hopefully they’ll actually be able to get something done. While I personally don’t have anything against rats, in the city the size of New York, an overabundance of rodents is a problem that potentially brings disease with it. Maybe we should start an “adopt-a-rat” program and give them all proper homes? A spay, neuter and release program, maybe?
