Sorry to spring the bad news on you New York, but it looks like any hope of NYC picking up the 2024 Olympic Games has gone straight down the toilet. Mayor Bill de Blasio has decided to retract his attempt at bidding for the games. Of course, he wasn’t too keen on trying to bring the Olympics to NYC anyways, so it comes as little surprise.

While hosting the games would have given the city an economic boom, the decision ultimately came down to whether the extreme amount of planning that goes into hosting the games would have been worth it. Given Governor Cuomo’s future plans for NYC’s development, it looks like the Olympic Games would have turned out to be more of a burden than anything else. Oh well… maybe in 2036?
