What’s Happening: Safe personal care products

Plus a modern day slavery video, NSA surveillance ruling & more

Looking for safe personal care products to use every day, or something safe for your family? The Institute for Humane Education has six resources you can use to find what you need. You can look up cosmetics and personal care products to find which ones you currently use and find out how healthy they are for you (and for the planet). Lately I’ve been making my own homemade deodorant (you can get the “recipe” here) and it is working great so far. You will still sweat but there’s no odor, and it’s so cheap once you buy the initial ingredients (the most expensive for me was the coconut oil).

If you want to show older kids and teens what modern day slavery looks like (or to just see it yourself), watch this video from Free the Slaves. This content is too strong for young children, but I really recommend passing it around—especially to people who say that slavery is dead or who think the problem is not as huge as it is. I also recommend getting involved with Free the Slaves as a group or family if you want to do something about it because they do tremendous work.

A US federal judge has ruled that the NSA’s massive surveillance of phone calls is lawful, so the Supreme Court is probably going to have to step in to resolve the matter. Don’t they know that only Batman is allowed to violate the privacy of people en masse like this? Some people are saying that privacy is completely dead, but I’m willing to continue to fight for mine. How about you?
