Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for July 5
AAA -- Tacoma 7, Salt Lake 5 -- Box
Hello, again, Ty Kelly. The newly arrived ex-Oriole had a home run and a double, after getting on base four times on the 4th. As part of the Mariners he's hitting .429/.529/.929 in four games.
Stefen Romero (Talk40 #11) had three hits and Carlos Peguero (Watch List) contributed his 14th home run.
All of which helped get the win for Erasmo Ramirez despite an uncharacteristically wild outing: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 6 BB, 4 K.
Given his career walk rate of 1.6 BB/9, that's a shocker.
High-A -- High Desert 6, Rancho Cucamonga 3 -- Box
Cameron Hobson solved the Rancho crew for six solid innings: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K.
And he got another good closing outing from Dominic Leone (Talk40 #25) (1.1 IP, 0 R). In his last 20 outings, Leone has given up earned runs only twice, and never more than one. He has 11 saves in that period. His ISO-against is .061. And all that done in the California League.
Leone for Bullpen!
Low-A -- Burlington 6, Clinton 5 -- Box
What's Your Vector, Victor? Ummmm ... a little wobbly. Victor Sanchez (Talk40 #12): 5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K. His ERA creeps up to 3.08.
Jordy Lara had three hits, including a double. Janelfry Zorrilla had two hits and a walk.
Short Season-A -- Salem-Keizer 4, Everett 1 -- Box
The Aqua Sox started out 14-3, but have now dropped four of their last five.
But still smokin' hot is Jamodrick McGruder (26intheMix). The little guy got his first home run, plus two singles. He's now at .333/.507/.519 in 19 games. I'm not really sure why he's still at Everett anyway, but he's sure making a case for a promotion.
Among The New Class, only Austin WIlson got a hit, and it was a single (nothing for D.J. Peterson or Justin Seager).
On the mound, it was hard-throwing Brazilian Thyago Viera. His line: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.
Rookie -- Danville 5, Pulaski 4 -- Box
The D-Braves jumped out to a 5-1 lead before the P-M's [?] made it close with home runs from Ian Miller and Joe DeCarlo (Talk40 #22). Miller also added a stolen base.
Dylan DeMeyer, South Africa's "next Sharkie" (though they're the same age), was strong in relief: 3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K.
AZL Rookie -- Giants 5, Mariners 4 -- Box
Most noteworthy: the return (after knee surgery) of Jesus Montero. He was the DH and went to the plate twice. He got a single and a walk then was lifted. So he has a 1.000 BA and 1.000 OBP so far at Rookie League in 2013.
Kyle Petty, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound first baseman, got his first professional stolen base.
Looking Ahead
Jackson was postponed and will try to play two with Roenis Elias (26intheMix) slated for one of the games.
Maurer Power is on tap for Tacoma [Brandon Maurer (Talk40 #9)].
