Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for July 10

What's old is old again in Tacoma ... Marte continues intriguing hitting ... etc.

Everett and Arizona games in the "Spotlight" on guys named Tyler post.

Also news: Shannon Drayer reports that Stephen Pryor was throwing from the Safeco Field mound on Wednesday and "looked good."

AAA -- Tacoma 6, Tucson 5  -- Box

It's the "old look" Rainiers now that all the hotshots are done passing through.

Carlos Triunfel (26intheMix) had a single, a double and a triple.

Nate Tenbrink (26intheMix) contributed a pair of hits.

And the king of "old look" in Tacoma is Brian Sweeney, who first played for the Rainiers in 1999.  Or was it 1899?

Sweeney filled in for Erasmo Ramirez (slotted for promotion) and held down the fort:  6.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.

AA -- Tennessee 7, Jackson 2 [completion of June 28 suspended game]  -- Box

AA -- Tennessee 5, Jackson 2  -- Box

The first game was started last month at Tennessee before being suspended in the 2nd inning.  Moises Hernandez "started" the re-start and went 4.1 IP with 4 ER, and the Generals never really got any offense going.

The second game wasn't much different.  Ji-Man Choi (Talk40 #19) had a triple and a walk.

High-A -- Rancho Cucamonga 2, High Desert 1 -- Box

Pow! Pow! Paolini!  It was the 14th dinger of the year for Daniel Paolini (Talk40 #26).

But, oddly enough, that was the only scoring of the night for the Mavericks.

Cameron Hobson had an interesting start marred by walks: 5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 2 K.

Low-A -- Clinton 6, West Michigan 1 -- Box

Charles Kaalekahi (26intheMix), like Hobson, had a bit of an issue with walks, but otherwise looked good: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.

I admit I was skeptical that Ketel Marte (26intheMix) would hit much, but after three hits on Wednesday, he's up to .270/.296/.323.  That's after starting out .190/.235/.190 (as in: ISO = .000) in April.

Since then he has eight doubles and three triples, and his ISO is headed toward triple digits.  Obviously, the organization loves him, or he wouldn't be in Clinton at 19.

Looking Ahead

Brandon Maurer (Talk40 #9) gets another turn for Tacoma.  Victor Sanchez (Talk40 #12) is set for Clinton.  Thyago Viera and his 1.96 ERA is scheduled for Everett.
