Weird news this week

This young couple “just wanted to kill someone together,” which is why they lured a man through Craigslist and stabbed him to death. Then they went out to eat together. What the hell?

What if honey is the answer to all of our superbug and antibiotic problems? If research can prove it is, maybe lawmakers will jump at protecting bees and reducing the amount of pesticides we use to help protect the possible cure. I just ate some honey for my sore throat and can vouch for at least one good use!

Dylan Garity’s SLAM poetry about No Child Left Behind and the state of schools in general as a “rigged game” is a brief but powerful performance. Rather than weird, it’s simply a must-watch.

While the news that dirt is good for kids (and everyone!) shouldn’t really be weird, in our germ-obsessed culture it kind of is. We are off to fun, family-filled places every week, from the Magic House to the Science Center, and I see parents constantly slathering their kids with Germ-X. Explore this Wellness Mama post to see why it’s in your best interest to not disinfect every single thing in your child’s life.

According to the New York Times and other sources, remains of large people, including skeletons as tall as nine feet, were found in underground living areas in America. Keep in mind that these stories were all written in the age of sensationalistic journalism, so they’ve got more of a National Enquirer spin on them, but they remain interesting. I also read somewhere that humans are supposed to get smaller as the climate changes, but I wish I could remember where (and if it was a reputable source!), but it’s also interesting to think about.
