I like them. They look very bright and have Sounders spirit.
The Seattle Storm is not the only team bringing out style changes this year. The Seattle Sounders have announced their new kits for 2016 and they are very stylish. Did you know that adidas does not create the uniforms all on their own? They receive input from the teams and ask for ideas, thoughts and opinions to begin a collaborative process. Then prototypes are made, modified and finalized.
This year, there is a classic soccer silhouette contrast sleeve on the jersey. An embossed “S” runs across the entire panel to show texture and an “iconic legacy,” according to adidas. The “S” stands for Seattle Sounders, of course, but you cannot see it from far away; the “S” is only visible upon inspection up close. They also have the phrase “Sky of blue, sea of green” along the neckline, which fans will be sure to love. It not only stands for the team colors, but also the sky and sea along Seattle, representing the natural beauty of the city, the community and the ocean nearby. The council also voted to have the image of Chief Seattle, the city crest of Seattle, to be featured on the jock tag of each kit. Whereas last year’s three stripes were along the shoulder, this year they are on the body of the kit.
Some are saying that “blue is the new black” when it comes to the kits. The third kit features two different shades of blue, and while the primary kit still features a central green splash, its sleeves are blue. The shorts for the primary kit are also blue. The third kit blue features cyan highlights to help emulate that sky and sea affect that adidas was going for in order to really embrace the look and feel of Seattle. While you can see photos of the kits online now, the big ceremonial reveal will take place this Friday, February 19 at the CenturyLink Field ProShop.
While you are browsing around online and checking out the new kits, be sure to also visit the Seattle Sounders website to enjoy the behind the scenes footage of Seattle Sounders FC's preseason training in Southern California, which is now live on the site. March is quickly approaching and it won’t be long before we see both the Sounders and their new kits live in action.
What do you think of the new 2016 first and third kits?
