Would you like to be a member?

Have you or someone you know ever wanted to be a member of the Sounders FC Alliance Council? Established in 2008, the Council members “will serve as a liaison between Alliance members and the ownership group and represent Alliance members in matters impacting their match day experience.” The duties do not require a huge time commitment every month, but they do demand time management skills as well as the ability to be discreet about sensitive and confidential matters within the council that may not be available to the public.

You can only nominate a person for council if you are a season ticket owner, and only members of the Alliance can be nominated. Each season ticket warrants a single vote for the Council. To be elected into the Council, you have to get at least 25 votes. Council members are elected on a biennial timeline. Terms may be only extended for up to two years, so after the maximum term has been served, the members may no longer serve on Council.

If you would like to be on the Council, you should expect to meet on the first Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held in Pioneer Square. Additional meetings may be called when required by owners. An annual business meeting is also required. Expect meetings to last from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on what tasks are required that month. Member duties include creating blogs, social media posts and web posts for the team. Members are also tasked with posting surveys, helping with marketing and telephone communication and helping with the budget. Posting surveys, sending emails, taking notes and managing contests are additional expectations of members. Some other fun past member activities have included helping with scarf planning contests for the fans, working on the 2009 Supporters Summit as part of the MLS Cup festivities, and Sounders 40th Anniversary celebrations.

According to the Alliance FAQ, “The Alliance is more than a group of ticket holders: it is also the embodiment of our spirit and passion within the Sounders community. The Alliance is tasked with the General Manager Vote approximately every four years, a responsibility that is unique to the Seattle Sounders.” It is a great way to have your opinions heard and be a part of the Sounders on a regular basis.
