Seahawks camp heating up
Rumblings and grumblings around Renton

Seahawks camp is still full of optimism, as all NFL camps should be at this point in the summer. No major injuries (knock on wood) and no holdouts. Still though, that doesn't mean there have not been fireworks in the first weekend change of the 2016 Seahawks training camp.

Waking up in the midwest today, opening my laptop and checking the headlines I see that Pete Carroll tossed Michael Bennett from practice. This, combined with Bennett's outspoken nature and not to mention his publicly known desire for a new contract set off an alarm in my head. But upon clicking on the link and reading further, you realize that the headline was nothing more than click bait. Yes he was booted, but just spent the rest of practice on the sideline.

Bennett got into the "doghouse" after getting into a little skirmish with Hawks guard Mark Glowinski, in which Carroll said Bennett "crossed the line." Every camp has these little blow ups, and we really should not read too much into it. No matter how much the media does over the weekend.

Speaking of Glowinski he and the guard on the other side of center Germain Ifedi have received glowing reviews from coaches, players and analysts alike. They have displayed a level of toughness that has drawn praise across the board. Although Carroll said on 710 ESPN that, "it will take a while for his football to come together."

And speaking of praise, again Christine Michael is basking in his annual glow that he gets this time of year, every year like clockwork. In the past Darrell Bevell and Pete Carroll would gush over his talent, that he was the most talented back in camp, even more than Marshawn Lynch. This time, John Clayton got on the radio saying that Michael is finally exhibiting the potential many saw when he came in as a second-round pick. Remember though, we have heard this all before, he (Michael) has performed at this level at this time of the year before, but his camp performance has never translated to the regular season. At the end of the day he is still only battling to be the third down back.

We are approaching the start of preseason, and thigns will really take shape then - like the level of suspect of the offensive line. However, it it turning out to be a typical, yet eventful camp, which is a welcome change from last year's drama filled August.
