Nine Video Games that Changed the World

The world of video games is constantly evolving. Being as how it is such a huge industry these days, there is always incentive to create something new and push the boundaries of the many genres of gaming. But once, a long time ago in an arcade far, far away, there were few options. People were working with minimal technologies to create games that would draw people in without the benefit of mind-blowing graphics. They had to make these games with small groups of people, so there were no AAA teams that had the luxury of spending five years perfecting a massive product. And no one really knew what would be successful or not (leading to some very hard times in the industry at various points).

I present now a list of nine of the most influential video games over the last decades. Each one of these did, in its own way, bring the industry further along, leading to the amazing wealth of creativity and entertainment that we see today. Though this list is far from complete, I do think these are some of the most important. Read on and enjoy.

Justice Scalia rules: Deep dish is not pizza

Deep dish pizza has really been taking it on the chin lately. First we learn that 91% of the time, Chicago residents order regular pizza, not deep dish pizza. Then Jon Stewart went on a rampage against deep dish pizza, calling it "a f***ing casserole." And now comes the news that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has officially ruled that deep dish pizza is not technically pizza.

Garrett Richards is the New Ed Walsh, dept.

Right on cue, Bill gives us a long, thoughtful article about "swing men."  The subtitle there is as the section header above.

If it was a little before your time ... Mo' Dawg and I enjoyed watching Big Ed's finest season in 1908.  He started 49 games, relieved in another 17 games, and won 40 games with a 1+ ERA.  He also led the league in cellar dungeons.

I/O:  [Where do you think Paxton starts, AAA or starting rotation?]   probably the rotation, especially with Iwakuma likely to miss a few starts

CRUNCH:  Had everybody else been talking about this, and I just missed the memo?

Hisashi Iwakuma missing two starts, that like hands us K-Pax and Taijuan on a silver platter, right?  Meaning that Iwakuma's injury is the greatest thing in the history of Mariner baseball.

Can't believe that something so obvious, sat there unnoticed.  Hey, before Iwakuma's injury, the odds of us getting both kids for the rotation were probably 20%, 30%.  Now it feels more like 80%, 90%.

Pending the import of a an MLB(TM) 15-game winner, which would also be quite pleasant.
