Dennis Rodman: Kim Jong-un’s new friend

If you’re following the situation in North Korea as I am, you may have noticed that there’s a little bit more going on over there than just the typical saber-rattling and threats of war.  In one strange development, it looks like Kim Jong-un is a big basketball fan.  To prove it, he invited Dennis Rodman to come have a visit in the country this last February and, as long as the country doesn't implode, Rodman may be making his way back there yet again in August.

The Cinema World Restaurant in South Korea

If you’re a geek like me, then this latest installment of unique places to eat in the world will be right up your alley.  It’s called the Cinema World (or CW) Restaurant and it’s located in Daegu, South Korea.  Run by a guy named Woong Cho, this restaurant is really part eating establishment and part museum.  The museum side of it - a massive horde of sci-fi and fantasy collectibles that would make any true collector pass out from shock and awe.

This week in North Korea: Nuclear yes or no?

The latest talk from the North Korean front says that they may indeed be ready to put some nuclear weapons into the air. This comes via a recent U.S. intelligence report, but many people are in doubt as to its accuracy. There is still a vast majority that believes the DPRK is all talk and bluster.  But will this new report begin to shift belief in the other direction?

North Korea still screaming and yelling

As the impending hypothetical showdown with North Korea looms, we are being bombarded with more of the same rhetoric and threats that the world has seen for most of the last 50 years.  Whether it’s going to lead to something bigger or not is unknown, but for now nothing much seems new.  Many in the West are itching for a fight with the rogue state and if the DPRK pushes too hard this time, they may just end up getting what they claim they desire.

Authors who were prophets?

Sometimes authors become prophets of events yet to come. Morgan Robertson, an Edwardian-era author, penned a novella in 1898 entitled Futility in which an ocean liner eerily similar to the Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks. Though the plot itself did not resemble what happened on April 14-15, 1912, the similarities between the demise of the two ships is still striking.

The continuing troubles of North Korea

It seems that every year presents the same scenario - the small rogue state of North Korea, last bastion of true communism, gets everyone in an uproar by doing something to develop its military that the rest of the world doesn't like.  From nuclear testing to launching missiles through the airspace of its neighbors to kidnapping fishermen, they seem to have no limit on what they’re willing to do to piss people off.
