Free Kindle cookbooks

I love new cookbooks. I like reading through all the recipes and marking the pages of the ones I'd like to try. Unfortunately, that can get expensive, especially when you can't even justify the costs. As much as I love cookbooks, I tend to stick to the old tried and true recipes most of the time, only venturing to try a new one once in a while. I will never be able to cook all the recipes in every book I have, yet I'm still drawn to them. I've found a way to satiate my appetite for cookbooks while keeping costs low: Free Kindle cookbooks!

Taiyuan’s Tang Du Zoology Restaurant

If you’re looking for a place to eat that is not only beautiful but truly huge, check out China’s TangDoushengState Park in Taiyuan.  More commonly known as Tang Du Zoology, this is a restaurant unlike others in that you may spend just as much time getting to your seat as you do eating.  It is a massive sprawl of mixed man-made and nature, filled with animals - many of which you can eat.

The Low-Carb Slow Cooker: Kalua Pork

Welcome to what I hope to make a regular weekly feature: Low carb (ideally Paleo, or at least Paleo-adjacent) meals you can easily cook in your slow cooker (a.k.a. the Crock Pot, although that's a trademarked name, not a generic term). I love making low carb meat dishes in the slow cooker, because I am a lazy cook. I work from home so I have plenty of time to prep and create fabulous fantastic elaborate meals, but I would prefer not to.

Picnic apps for iPhone

I've mentioned picnics a couple of times lately as a way to celebrate holidays. Obviously, it's one of my favorite ways to make any day special. I still have fond memories of my two younger brothers and me packing our favorite snacks into a basket and heading behind our house into the woods for a picnic. Don't worry, we didn't go too far. If you'd like to go on a picnic of your own and need some ideas, try these iPhone apps for picnic inspiration.

DIY book release party tips and tricks

I will be discussing this topic at the Writer.ly PubCamp workshop this weekend. I'm really looking forward to talking about it, and you may have read my series a few weeks ago about just this topic here on DIY Author. There are lots of great tips in that series, so I won't rehash them here. What I will do is lay out my new "equation" for coming up with a good book release party idea and marketing for that idea.

Homemade Fun: Make your own vapor rub

There are SO many cool homemade remedies, cosmetics and household cleaners you can make out there, and I love trying them out. If nothing else, it’s fun to make new things—but if you actually love what you make, you’ll also never have to buy it again.

Here are some cool homemade recipes I have seen this week.

Homemade Vapor Rub: It’s mostly just essential oils and beeswax.

Exercises for readers: Step outside your genres

Every year I like to challenge myself to read one book that is in a genre that I have never read, had no interest in, and probably looked down on in the past. Sometimes my preferences turn out to be totally valid, and other times I have been surprised at what great books you can find lurking in previously-unexplored genres.

A meal made for a runner

For anybody seeking a simple, delicious and complete meal, consider this vegetarian-inspired quinoa dish for your next meal. The beauty of this meal is that you can make the quinoa in large batches and the vegetables in small batches so it can be eaten throughout the week. This meal is filling, affordable and versatile, simply by changing the vegetables and sauce that accompany the dish. Recipe and variation ideas below. Bon appétit!
