What's for dinner: Baked pork chops

It's easy to get caught up in complicated recipes and innovative new procedures. But you know what works great for pork chops? Just put them in a 9x13 pan, sprinkle them with salt and pepper, and bake them at 350 until they are done.

I cook my chops to a full 165 degrees, even though the USDA recently dropped its recommendation to 145 degrees.

Choosing a cookbook

I get twitchy whenever the topic of cookbooks comes up. Like this article, which goes around asking a lot of famous chefs which cookbook they would recommend people cook their entire way through. Choosing a cookbook is a tricky business, isn't it?

The problem is that a cookbook is not a technical manual. There is no one single way to do anything. But the cookbook's author isn't going to admit that. So instead, every cookbook passes off its author's personal beliefs and prejudices as actual fact.

Media Hijinks - TV Shows, Old and New

First and foremost, it looks like the creators of Venture Bros. are not done quite yet.  Though season 5 was short and perhaps took a BIT too long to get to us, they’ve jumped back into the shark tank and even have a date for us - January of 2015.  Yup, that’s almost a year-and-a-half since season 5.  Once again, we shall be forced to wait.  And once again, we shall do it willingly if not happily.

What not to eat during the government shutdown

We have one of the worst food safety records in the developed world. In the wake of the government shutdown, FDA food inspections have been suspended, and the nation-wide network for reporting outbreaks of food-borne illness (which triggers food recalls) is closed. As little work as the FDA does at the best of times (they are only able to inspect 2% of the food being imported into the country when they are working at full speed), the closure of FDA inspections could end up being disastrous for American health.
