Ackley got a 1-0, 80 mph slider from Hanson, put a good swing on it, juuussssst got under it for a flyball-8 .... and SLAMMMMMED his bat on the ground in a barely-controlled rage.

Ackley is in a rage? That he didn't take Tommy Hanson deep ... in Ackley's second week in The Show? Isn't Ackley supposed to be busy ... being afraid?

Jack Nicholson once said, Star quality is when a cat walks on stage and everybody keeps looking at you. I'm completely mesmerized by Dustin Ackley.

You know what movie star had an attitude like Ackley's? Calm, narrow-eyed violence? Few words, fight now talk later, just throw back the poncho and let's draw? Clint Eastwood.

Not a lot of showmanship. Just rather fight than talk.

Become a Sims 3 "Tiger Mother"

I'm playing a super-hard challenge these days, which requires (among other things) that your Sim max out their career AND a skill. I have traditionally had a lot of trouble getting either of these things accomplished, much less in the same Sim. It has really brought home to me the value of matching up skills with traits and career.

The Deathfish: Key to Immortality

I haven't really talked about fishing as a skill, because frankly I find it pretty boring. Although on the up side, it is one of the few skills that children and teens can work on. (Kids can even fish from swimming pools!)

Cutters, Sliders, and Jason Vargas

A normal fastball fades armside about six inches. A "cut" fastball is a very hard little slider that breaks the other way, gloveside, from 0-4 inches ... a very important 8 inches' delta off the regular fastball.

Upcoming Sims 3 Expansion Packs

There are two more expansion packs in the works for Sims 3. (I haven't been keeping track of The Sims Medieval, because that is a stand-alone game, and I'm kind of committed to my legacy families at this point. I'd like to give it a whirl, but… fifty bucks! That's a lot of money for something I know I won't be playing regularly.

Sims 3 World Adventures: Egypt Travel Guide

Egypt is the final country in our exhaustive tour of the three worlds. And frankly, that's because it's the one I find least interesting. Although the monuments are suitably striking, the landscape (being mostly sand) is pretty boring. And I have never gotten very drawn in by the adventures themselves, which is Egypt's strong suit.

But if you are looking for adventures, tombs to raid, and mummies to kill (or be converted by), then Egypt is the place for you. A Sim can't throw a rock in Egypt without hitting a tomb!

The Omni Plant: Its Habits and Cultivation

The Omni Plant is arguably the best plant you can grow in The Sims 3. (Some might say that this honor belongs to the Money Tree - which is pretty awesome, and easier to get. I understand this point of view, but the Omni Plant is still pretty darned cool.)

Unfortunately, the Omni Plant is also virtually impossible to obtain. This makes it one of the most frustrating challenges in The Sims 3, which is perhaps only fitting.
