Whale Watching in Newport Beach

There are few things more amazing than having a whale break the surface of the ocean right next to you.  For those living in Los Angeles, this sort of experience is readily available, as the whale migration route runs right along the coast.  Taking a whale watching tour is a great way to spend some time with your loved one, building memories that will last a lifetime.  Newport Landing Whale Watching is one company that offers these sorts of tours, providing numerous trips on a daily basis during the migration season.  Has anyone ever

Rebuilding or reloading?

This is gonna be me musing about the state of the Ms and our frustration with the wait to build a contender in general.  Be warned and hang on.

As we wander into our annual September irrelevance, the gnashing of teeth around the blog-o-sphere is increasing.  Baker sums it up well with his article today:

And sometimes, you’ll get it wrong. Sometimes, the Josh Hamilton signing might not work out.

Hotel Casa Del Mar

One of only two hotels in Los Angeles that has the distinction of being on the beach itself, the Hotel Casa Del Mar is a beautiful building that holds an equally classy and luxurious interior.  Everything one could desire in a romantic LA experience is available, whether it be in the hotel or in the neighborhood.  A few of the hotel amenities include a rooftop pool and Jacuzzi, in-suite Jacuzzis, an in-room or poolside massage service and live jazz every night in the lobby

Hotel Bel-Air

The Hotel Bel-Air is a hugely popular, high-end hotel designed in Spanish mission style.  Located within the prestigious Bel-Air Estates neighborhood, this very exclusive accommodation is both beautiful and luxurious.  The interior of the hotel is like an artistic journey and every room is designed with themes from the past.  Couples can enjoy the heated pool, the spa, the piano lounge, a fitness center or the gardens.  For extra romance, try a private dining experience.  Outside the hotel’s doors, Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood, along

The Redbury

The Redbury hotel is situated at the famous corner of Hollywood and Vine.  This is the kind of hotel that one could only find in Hollywood and is, apparently, also popular with more than a few Hollywood stars.  The glamorous yet homey feel creates an atmosphere that is perfect for those couples looking for a more exciting and romantic Los Angeles vacation.  Just some of the hotel’s offerings include walk-in rain showers, spa services and a restaurant that serves renowned Middle Eastern food.  And ou

What's J.J. Abrams up to now?

Forget animal, vegetable, mineral, the main question in the entertainment world today right now is: Film, television show or novel? On Monday morning, J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot company had a brand new video posted on its YouTube Channel. Entitled, Stranger, this thing made everyone stark raving crazy all day (and, at last check, all night, too). To say the video, which is definitely a trailer for something, is mysterious is an understatement. I've watched it several times and I'm not sure what it's for either.

NBA star experienced alien abduction

Baron Davis, former NBA Guard for the NY Knicks, made a surprising announcement recently on a news show podcast. Davis told the hosts of The Champs about the time that he was abducted and examined by aliens. Davis was taken aboard an alien ship during a road trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. His memories of the abduction were confused, and he experienced lost time as well. The next thing he knew, he was in his car taking an exit off the freeway in Los Angeles. Creepy!

Accountability

The 2013 season is gone, up in smoke, so far as Dr. D is concerned.  If you've lost count, this is season #5 in Jack Zduriencik's rebuild plan.

A quick comparison:

GM Seasons W L % W per 162
Bavasi, M's 2003-08 322 395 .449 73
Zduriencik, M's 2009-13 323 407 .442 72
Bavasi, LAA 1994-99 434 491 .469 76
Bavasi, career   756 886 .460 75

The fact is that the Mariners' on-field product is no better under Zduriencik than it was under Bavasi.  There is a mitigating factor to consider here:  Zduriencik has piled up a huge flotilla of under-25 talent.

Bavasi had done exactly this in Los Angeles.  The farm system that Bavasi ran --- > became the core of the Angels' 2002 championship team, with a core of Troy Glaus, Troy Percival, Darin Erstad and many others.  The 1995-2001 nucleus was stuffed with breathtaking talent, and Bavasi wisely signed a group of them up to long-term, under-market contracts.
