Short reads: Put your three-day weekend to use

Memorial Day may be the three-day weekend most people associate with summer and barbecues, but others of us are, shall we say, a little more indoors-y? For the bookish, a three day weekend is a great chance to get caught up on some of that giant stack of "to read" books.

If you need a quick hit of completion, here are some short literary works that you can probably get through this weekend. All of these works clock in at under 50,000 words - just barely past the "novella" threshold into "novel" territory.

As authors and writers, we all have our own personal struggles with putting words on paper (or laptop), but one of the most common is the simple goal of sitting down and actually doing the writing. Two tactics I've read a lot about and used myself are 1) Chunking and 2) Timers.

If you are a Cleveland fan and you're still complaining about Lebron leaving, you need to put on your big kid pants and get over it. Now, if you are a Cavs fan and complaining about your big man Andy Varejao having a career season and getting hurt, then that’s a different story. Unfortunately for the Cavs, along with a horrible record, things just got worse.
