Make up a silly game
One of my favorite ways of making memories these days is to make up silly games or songs with Wood Sprite. Sometimes we just talk in a goofy accent; sometimes we make up entirely different games to play. Here are some of our recent favorites; what are yours?
Turning Everything Into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle
Lately, we like to sing the old 80s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” theme song but replace “turtles” with anything we want—toothbrush, Legos, boogers, whatever. It gets pretty silly. We tried altering the rest of the song to fit, but it is honestly funnier when you keep the rest as-is.
Saying Everything in Whiny Krang’s Voice
Along the same lines, we are having a lot of fun mimicking Krang, the giant brain from Dimension X in the series. We imitate his whiny voice and say things like “Sah-keee, I hurt my elbow!” (which is, of course, a nod to Epic). There’s also “Sah-keee, change my diaper!” Wood Sprite came up with “Sah-keee, I grew boo-beees!” We laughed until we cried with that one.
Imitating Cave People
We have this really goofy game where we grunt and pretend to be cave people. I grab her up and growl, “Got my spear. Got my baby. Mama can’t sleep. Gotta protect baby.” And we pretend that I fight lions or whatever beast is going to eat her. She gets a kick out of it.
Crazy Rock, Paper Scissors
WS loves “Rock Paper, Scissors” and we change it up all the time. We’ll do a farm or forest theme (Bear, Duck, Frog—figure that one out!), or one of her latest favorites, a make it up as you go theme. We got the idea from Bored Shorts, so we’ll do volcanoes, UFOs, a Cyclops, whatever we want.
