Review: Dexter ‘Goodbye Miami’
After a week off, we come back to Dexter with but three episodes left before the show is gone forever. So will our eight years of watching pay off? Well, it’s time to begin the final stretch. Last time, we saw Dex and Hannah getting close again and now they’re pretty much committed to leaving
As the relationship between Vogel and her son continues, he tries to convince her that she needs to teach him how to exist the same way Dexter does, by using some sort of code. Though she was opposed to Dex killing him at first, a little time proves that she may not be able to help her son as she wants. So she turns to Dex for some help, but things don’t quiet turn out as they should.
Meanwhile, Dex and Hannah make plans to leave. Dex puts in his notice at the cop-shop and lets certain people know that he’s going. But the feds are still hot on Hannah’s trail and, thanks to a string of bad luck, she ends up in a compromising position. This is further complicated by the fact that Dex still wants to kill Vogel’s son and is putting them both at risk by prolonging the hunt.
This episode was very well paced, taking time to slow down and concentrate on all the character interactions and development that is one of the show’s strong points. Still, it also manages to address the smaller stuff without getting bogged down by it all. I have to say I was a little disappointed in some of the developments, particularly those revolving around Hannah. It’s a sign of lazy writing when a series of random events come together to cause a major plot complication. The fed just “happens” to overhear that Dex is leaving and so goes looking for him instead of leaving town as he was originally planning. Then little
Still, the episode was mostly good and next week we shall see how it all comes together when ‘Monkey in a Box’ airs. For a quick peek at what to expect head to this site and check out a little preview.
