Exploding Kittens card game raises $3.5 million in 72 hours
Card games may not seem like the most lucrative thing in the world, but if you get the right combination of talent, humor, and cleverness, you can rule the world. So we learned this week, when a Kickstarter for a card game called Exploding Kittens raised a whopping $3.5 million in only three days.
The game is essentially a fancy card version of Russian Roulette, but it has a great pedigree: the game is being designed by Elan Lee, who designed some of the biggest ARGs (alternate reality games) in history, including the ARG tie-ins for A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and Halo's I Love Bees.
The cards are being designed by Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal, who met Lee while on vacation. The Oatmeal's irreverent, demented sense of humor alone was probably enough to sell the game for a lot of people.
