Friday Fun: Star Wars shelves

Plus science experiments, Ghost Nebula, graphic novels and Mars

Check out this amazing Star Wars book shelf. We went to a story time this week at a library we don’t usually go to, and the librarian had a really cool R2-D2 cart that she used for her supplies, too.

Make an amazing bubble quilt for your kids to enjoy, or make one together! I think any young children would enjoy this, and you could even use it on a chair seat later for texture and softness.

Try these fun science experiments. Each of these 13 experiments is explained in 6 seconds or less! If you do any of them, be sure to share your photos with us. I would love to see what you and your family comes up with!

Show your family the Ghost Nebula, which looks like a phoenix! Also: the death of the sun. This might be a little intense for kids who worry about death but older kids and teens might really find it interesting. Also, did you know that we’re supposed to be able to view Mars a little after midnight on August 27? It won’t happen again in our lifetimes (or our children’s lifetimes) so we are going to try to see it.

Make a graphic novel with the help of GoRaina.com. Speaking of which, Wood Sprite is now into graphic novels about Scooby Doo—and Shakespeare! She picked out an adaptation of Macbeth at the library this week.

Want to disable your Geolocation on your phone? Here’s how. Want to know why it’s important? Here’s how hackers can track you down when you use your smart phone to post photos. It’s definitely NOT fun, but it’s so important that I’m sharing it twice this week. It really scared me, and we still have friends and family who post such photos on Facebook even after I’ve stopped.

Sea Turducken! Holy cow. This is such an amazing “boom!” moment from nature. I’m still staring at this photo, amazed.
