Oh, the Horror!: More Must-See Movies for January
From low-budget slasher flicks to visually stunning psychological thrillers, there truly is a horror movie out there for everyone. If you're in the mood for some original – and unsettling – cinematic ghost stories this season, here are a couple of fantastically eerie titles that are sure to creep you out while keeping you safe from the cold.
Haunter (2013)
Fifteen year old Lisa is trapped in an enigmatic time loop, forcing her to relive the day before her sixteenth birthday with her family forever. To make things worse, the house in which she's confined shows definite signs of paranormal activity. The further she explores the ghostly presence in her home, the more clear it becomes that something doesn't want her uncovering the truth. A genuinely spooky ghost story with a unique twist, Haunter is one of the finer psychological horror films I've seen in years.
The Others (2001)
Arguably one of the more original paranormal horror films released in the last twenty years, The Others is a murky, tragic tale of loss and restless spirits. When a young mother hires a new staff to help care for her perpetually ill children and remote estate, a series of strange happenings ensues. Convinced her home is haunted, she begins to investigate... and is wholly unprepared for what she finds along the way.
