Links for April 24, 2012 The Washington Post thinks that the Fukushima crisis was a “mess” and “not a catastrophe” and then argues for building more nuclear power plants in the US. The Japanese are going to build a 100 feet tall wall underground at Fukushima Daiichi to prevent further spread of radioactive contamination. Tepco, the company that built and operated the Fukushima nuclear power plant, announced that it will dump 1,000 tons of groundwater a day from under the damaged reactor buildings directly into the ocean but promised that it "would check contamination level before releasing it.” The Economist magazine is "astounded" that the health of people near Fukushima Daiichi is not being tracked for illness caused by the radiation that was released.
