Media Hijinks - Another Week of Bad Movies
While the majority of this week’s news is about
First and foremost, fans of Arrow can rejoice, for a new baddie has joined the show in the form of actress Summer Glau. Those familiar with Glau may remember her from such shows as Firefly and The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Now, she’ll be taking on the role of Isabel Rochev, a corporate big-wig with designs on Oliver’s company, Queen Industries. Personally, I hope this means that she’ll be taking over in the capacity that John Barrowman was doing last season and acting as this season’s mastermind behind the scenes. She’s long been a favorite of mine and I’d love to see her get plenty of screen time.
Next up, it looks like Fox is going to take another shot at adapting Alan Moore’s excellent comic series, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Some may remember the horrible film that came out in 2003, a film that not even the presence of Sean Connery could save. This time, however, the story will be coming to television. Fox has ordered a pilot, though whether it continues beyond that remains to be seen. I do have to wonder if they’ll be able to get around a lot of the mature content that LoEG contains without just making another crappy adaptation.
Third up, another reboot that doesn’t need to happen. This one some of you may already have heard of, it’s a remake of Park Chan-Wook’s classic and acclaimed movie, Oldboy. Spike Lee has taken the helm of this one and the film is pretty much ready to go so they’ve released a trailer for us to peruse. I’m on the fence about this one, personally. Lee is a good director, but I don’t see any way to make this film without making it less than the original and thus give us no reason to watch it. If you’re curious, you can check out the trailer at the link below.

And finally, because it’s one of the funniest things I’ve seen as of late, another wonderful SyFy original disaster film. This one combines the power of a tornado with the sharp teeth of an army of flying sharks. Yes, it’s Sharknado - perhaps the best-named craptastic film to ever hit the small screen. Check out the amazingly ridiculous trailer at the link below.
