Great Date Movies This February
Given that Valentine’s Day is in February, it’s no surprise that the month is full of great movies to watch with a date. Whether you’re looking for something scary (that will make you cuddle!), something sappy (that will make you cry and subsequently make out), or a thriller to make you sit on the edge of your seat (and perhaps clutch a new date’s hand?), there is something for you this month.
The Scary Movie: The Woman in Black
Not only does this film look like it will make you pee your pants—it also features Daniel Radcliffe, who somehow transformed from Harry Potter prepubescent hero into full-blown hottie recently. It’s about a lawyer (Radcliffe) who attempts to discover the secrets of a spooky town and a spooky house, where a ghostly woman is apparently terrorizing everyone within radius. Everyone I know—even those who don’t really like scary movies—wants to see this movie. I have already made a date to see it with my sister this Wednesday and cannot wait to be scared out of my wits—or to stare at Radcliffe for a couple of hours, for that matter.
The Sapfest: The Vow
This is a Nicholas Sparks movie, so you might not want to see it for a variety of reasons—like his formulaic sad plots or his own arrogance when comparing himself to, say, William Faulkner. I am chagrined to admit that while I won’t read his books, I am planning on seeing this film with my best friend later in the month. (I tend to see films with friends rather than with my husband because, unfortunately, we do not readily have a sitter near where we live.) Hey, I love Rachel McAdams—one of the few actresses who happens to be both funny and smart, pretty and not anorexic—and Channing Tatum is pretty smokin’. The film is about a couple who is recently married. McAdams is in a horrible accident and loses her memory, so her husband has to make her fall in love with him all over again. Wonder who’s going to kick the bucket at the end?
The Thriller: Gone
I am so excited to see this movie—with my other sister!—at the end of February, or perhaps March. Not only does it star one of my favorite young actresses, Amanda Seyfried; it is also about a serial killer and a woman who has to be strong and take him on when the cops simply refuse to believe her. (I smell police involvement in the crimes, how about you?) Women are often not believed by men and I am excited to see that as theme here, as well as to see Seyfried be a BAMF as she tries to save her sister.
