Seduction Artist Seductively Shoots A Woman In The Face

Self-described Pick-Up Artist (which is inevitably abbreviated for the internet: PUA) Allen Reyes had a pick-up attempt turn into an argument.  No shock there, given that his advice in re seduction includes gems like "Make the ho say no."

What is a bit of a shock is that he finished the argument by shooting her in the face.  His 20 year-old target Amber Tripp is in the hospital in critical condition.

What was the last thing Amber said before he shot her in the face?  Did the ho indeed say no?  Did she call him out for being creepy?  Surely this would simply have been an accurate description, given his appearance on this video Jezebel found.  If there's a more accurate word than "creep,y" I can't think of it at the moment.

The fact is, Amber Tripp pushed back against an active member and of "the seduction community."  And she got shot for it.  One wonders how many women didn't protest as strongly, and basically experienced date rape instead of a shooting.

I'm no fan of "the seduction community."  In fact, I feel like washing my hands after just typing "the seduction community."  (A phrase which I cannot help but put in "irony quotes" because that somehow makes it "less gross.")  But I'm willing to concede that a guy who shoots a woman in the face is not representative of their goals or ideals.  (Except in the most metaphorical sense.)

I will however note that "the seduction community" is, by definition, comprised of men who must deploy special tactics in order to get laid.

These "seduction techniques" are essentially Date Rape 101.  And at a certain point it becomes clear that it isn't about sex at all.  It's about power, and seeing women as the enemy.  Reyes wasn't just one lone creep; he had a popular podcast, and was featured in Neil Straus' book about the community titled The Game.

One would hope that this incident would give "the seduction community" pause to reflect.  That hearing that one of their messiahs had shot a woman in the face when things went wrong might cause a bout of wondering aloud whether their institutionalized misogyny might occasionally go too far.

And one would be wrong.

I suppose it's too much to look at a guy who calls himself "Gunwitch" and think, "This guy is a little bit loopy and possibly dangerous."  Nevertheless, Reyes/Gunwitch apparently kept getting invited to parties.

I have no doubt that the women of Klamath Falls have some stories to tell about Gunwitch.  It's only a pity they didn't tell them to Amber Tripp.  Which leads me to my final point: solidarity.

Surely there was at least one person at that party - male or female - who knew that Gunwitch was maybe not the stand-up guy he appeared to be.  But everyone apparently took a "live and let live" attitude towards his presence there on that night.

For every woman who gets date raped or shot in the face at a party, there's at least someone standing by who does nothing to stop it ahead of time.  You know what they say, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good [people] do nothing."
