St Louis mineral springs

The best mineral springs in St. Louis

Missouri’s geology makes it ripe for mineral springs, which can be found in an assortment of different classifications, including sulfur springs, alkaline springs, artesian springs, and more. Here are our picks for the top three mineral springs near St. Louis.

Mineral Springs Hotel

The nearby city of Alton, IL is filled with natural mineral springs – and ghosts! In fact, the Mineral Springs Hotel is said to be the best place to get a soak in one of Alton’s most historic mineral springs, as well as the best place to experience a sighting.

Big Spring

This spring is owned by the National Park Service, and access is free. One of Missouri’s first state parks, Big Spring truly lives up to its name, being one of the three largest springs in America.

Boiling Spring

This privately owned spring can still be accessed by floating down the river – just don’t cross the property owner’s property, as he is concerned about liability issues. The spring bubbles up from the river bed, and it is so strong that it churns up the gravel down there. Impressive!
