The best swimming holes near Pittsburgh

Where to go swimming in the Pittsburgh area

When the weather heats up, there is no better way to cool off than by checking out a local swimming hole. Jump in, use a rope swing, paddle around, or just have a picnic on the shore and relax! Here are our picks for the top three swimming holes in the Pittsburg area.

Robinson Hole

This local favorite is found in a surprisingly urban area, near a Costco and Robinson Mall. But don’t let the setting fool you, the swimming hole is beautiful and semi-secluded.

Rock Furnace Trail

This hiking trail in the Roaring Run Recreation Area passes by the scenic Jackson Falls, and leads to several swimming holes right off the trail. What a great way to cool off after a hike!

Buttermilk Falls

This swimming hole is at the base of a waterfall in a scenic area right off the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The setting may not be as bucolic as some, but it is conveniently located, and a great place to have a quick dip on the road.
