The best Connecticut parks

Visit a park this weekend

Connecticut has some amazing parks, and what an affordable way to get out and have some fun this weekend. Having trouble deciding where to go? Here are our top three picks for the best parks in Connecticut.

Housatonic Meadows State Park

If you are into angling, the Connecticut woods provide some of the world’s best fly fishing for trout and bass. Housatonic Meadows State Park is by far the most popular park for fishing, although it’s a tough contest – there is a lot of amazing fishing out there!

Pachaug State Forest

Just want to get out and explore the wilderness? Pachaug State Forest is over 20,000 acres of unspoiled forests, and has 54 miles of trails through forests, mountains, sandy beaches, and even a rhododendron sanctuary.

Fort Griswold

If history is your thing, visit Fort Griswold, one of the best maintained sites from the War of 1812. Along with its twin, Fort Trumbull, Fort Griswold helped  Commodore Stephen Decatur fight off the British blockade of the Thames River.
