Giant Sodas Back in the News
Remember the “big soda” ban? Yeah, the one where you weren’t allowed to order a soda that was more than 16 ounces. Well, it’s back in the news again. For while the ban originally got shot down because businesses were up-in-arms about it, now they’re trying to push it again.
Don’t get me wrong - giant sodas are incredibly bad for you. Anyone that consumes 40 ounces of processed corn syrup in one go is a lunatic and obviously doesn’t care if their body falls apart. But still… 16 ounces? And what’s the deal with not letting people make their own decisions? It’s all-too-reminiscent of the attack against cigarettes in the 80s and 90s. The government wants to get in and tell people how to be healthy, only this time it’s sugar instead of tobacco that’s on the hit list.
Oh well. Chances are it will be shot down again. Still, just seeing it pop up yet again makes me roll my eyes and wonder if the government doesn’t have better things to be doing other than regulating people’s health habits (or lack thereof).
