Reading back through this thread... a couple of proposals to spend Walker + for Sale- now, ~24 hours later, Jerry puts Jean Segura (+ parts) on our Thanksgiving tables, in exchange for two long-time Mariners-system soldiers that he clearly didn't value.
Yesterday I wrote a post- which got deleted- about how I preferred to go into battle with our own guys, developed through our system, for both emotional and practical reasons, than to trade them away for someone else's castoffs. Perhaps I'll recreate that. I also wrote one, that survived, in the next thread, on my preferred model for team creation (speed, defense, gap-power, first-pitch strikes.
All that said... I LOVE this trade, which seems to fit across alll those dimensions. Segura is a first-class shortstop who has added average and power- even OBP, although a bit light on the BBs- to his smooth glove. He finally recovered from the debacle of losing his nin-month-old son to put up a stellar performance in 2016. Haniger and Curtis are not simply throw-ins from the Mariners' perspective, who need RH OF help and LH bullpen arms. These two guys have potential to contribute in 2017; they fit my model of the team I want to watch and root for, and I look forward to seeing them contribute both as Rainiers and as Mariners.
When do the trucks leave? I'm ready to go to Peoria!
