Easy service project

Make a donation basket together

Every year, our local 4-H organization participates in the Soils and Crops Conference. Last year we attended, and we had to leave a bit early because Wood Sprite was bored and restless. It’s difficult for a seven-year-old to sit through a bunch of speeches and awards, after all, and there’s not a lot for children to do at the event. We do, however, always create a basket of goodies to donate as a raffle item to help generate funds for 4-H club.

Last year, we used a gardening theme and asked each 4-H member to donate seeds, tools and other gardening supplies. We had a pretty good basket, and so many people gave items that we had to purchase a larger basket! This year, we waited to purchase the basket after donations were raised. Our theme this year was simply children’s items to make it even more versatile. I was so glad we chose this theme because we ended up with an even better basket, with games, stuffed animals, candy and books. I am sure many families will want to buy a raffle ticket for this fun basket!

Donation baskets are so easy to make. We bought the container at the dollar store and since everyone brought items, it was very cheap and simple to create. You can make these to auction off for any cause your group has, or even make them to simply donate to a project of your choice. Another option is to collect small items to make bags for the homeless people in your neighborhood.
