Friday Fun: Games, puzzles and quiet fun

This weekend edition is brought to you by stomach bugs.

Sprite is really hoping to do some karaoke and dancing in honor of Valentine’s Day this weekend and I hope we can, but we’ve both been feeling pretty crummy since last Saturday. She’s been much better, and I think I’d be, too, if I rested more, so resting is my idea of Friday Fun this week!

In honor of the stomach bugs that we (and so many others) have had, this week’s list will be all about quiet fun things to do together.

Play games. Off and on throughout the week, Wood Sprite and I have been playing games together when we’ve felt like it. We’ve played Cooking Cookies, Hi Ho Cherry O (which she’d forgotten about, even though it was her favorite game several years ago) and Don’t Spill the Beans. She decided that we should take some of these games to our co-op game day in a week. During the last game hour, we played a new game (to us) called Ogres and Elves with a new friend and Sprite really enjoyed it.

Make puppets like the one Sprite made the other day.

Get under a cozy blanket and watch TV together. This is not normally my idea of family time, but when you’re under the weather it can really be a lifesaver. Pick a favorite movie the whole family enjoys or something you’ve wanted to share with your children, like one of your favorites as a child. Something gentle is always good, like Curious George or Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.

Introduce your child to some of your favorite music. Try a new music station together on Spotify, your cable channel, Pandora or anything you like.
